A blood borne infection (BBI) support program based in Nelson. We provide support and
outreach to people throughout the West Kootenay/Boundary region.
We believe that:
- All people are equal and deserve highest respect.
- All people have a story which deserves to be respectfully heard.
- All communities deserve culturally safe support services and excellence of individual care.
- The best harm reduction is social equity and social justice.
We offer:
- Confidential support for individuals living with or at risk of acquiring, HIV and Hepatitis C.
- Community level information and education about HIV and Hepatitis C.
- Meeting you where you are at and a safe place to ask for help.
- Culturally sensitive emotional support and crisis counselling.
- Meeting you privately in the ANKORS Nelson office OR outreach in your West Kootenay community.
- Working collaboratively to overcome barriers to personal wellbeing.
- Referrals to best community services and programs like: Opiate Agonist Therapy (OAT), TEETH Clinic, Supported Recovery Program, and Coordinated Access Hub.
- Practical support with application paperwork for: social assistance, housing, ID, tenancy challenges.
- Accompaniment to medical appointments, community services, and court appearances.
- Harm reduction for individuals and community via education, support and advocacy.
- Participation in ethical community collaboration for policy changes related to social determinants of health, such as housing.
